Santiago Calatrava

Santiago Calatrava Valls  born 28 July 1951) is a Spanish architect, sculptor and structural engineer whose principal office is in Zürich, Switzerland. Classed now among the elite designers of the world, he has offices in Zürich, Paris, Valencia, and New York City.

Calatrava's early career was largely dedicated to bridges and train stations, whose designs elevated the status of civil engineering projects to new heights. His Montjuic Communications Tower in Barcelona, Spain (1991) in the heart of the 1992 Olympic site, as well as the Allen Lambert Galleria in Toronto, Canada (1992), were important works and turning points in his career, leading to a wide range of commissions. The Quadracci Pavilion (2001) of the Milwaukee Art Museum was his first building in the United States. Calatrava's entry into high-rise design began with an innovative 54-story-high twisting tower called Turning Torso (2005), located in Malmö, Sweden.

Calatrava is currently designing the future train station – World Trade Center Transportation Hub – at the rebuilt World Trade Center in New York City.

Calatrava's style has been heralded as bridging the division between structural engineering and architecture. In the projects, he continues a tradition of Spanish modernist engineering.

Metametrix Testing

I am licensed provider for Metametrix Labs which offers unique and insightful test panels of which the GI Effects Test is the best in the industry as far as I am concerned.  Their testing uses PCR analysis versus traditional microscopy testing in which PCR is highly accurate.

Read more about the testing here

If you are interested then the process is easy in which I will order the test kits to be sent directly to you, you send the specimens back to Metametrix and enclose a check.  I receive test results in about 2 weeks and forward them to you via email.

They offer several different panels from a full profile to specific pathogenic testing.  I recommend panel #2105 which tests all phases of pathogens (parasite, yeast and bacteria).  Cost for this test is $250.00.

Email me with any questions you have.

Architecture House of the Year

Pictures and introduction courtesy of http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com

Mountainside home integrated into its powerful natural surroundings

Spa House is set on the mountainside on the urban edge of Hout Bay, overlooking the bay and harbour, and surrounded by weathered sandstone formations. The primary design intention was to integrate the building with the powerful landscape and to derive its poetics from the qualities of its surroundings.

The house is separated from the principal residence by a berm, and is connected to it by footpaths. The brief called for a guest house and entertainment facility. It incorporates swimming pools, guest accommodation, spa facilities and general living and poolside areas.

The house is conceived of as a hovering set of elements, suspended over a large waterscape, which forms an extended terrace on the mountainside.

Water constitutes the primary experience of the building. The floor planes are arranged to provide contrasting experiences of water, and the underwater spa with large viewing windows into the pool has a sense of stillness and mystery.  read more here >>

RC Bird

The original Sean Kinkade (SK) Park Hawk! Version 1! What an amazing machine. Its hard to believe when you first see it, but it is the easiest thing to fly and has proven to be quite robust. Robert found this gem hanging from the roof of one of our local hobby shops and had to pick it up. I had been eyeing it for quite a while and maybe I should have picked it up. Either way its a joy to witness and to fly.
